Allen's New Site

I don't know how often I've posted links to my boyfriend's rarely-updated web site, but here it is again. Sure the guy rarely posts news stories, but he plays with different back-end scripts a lot. This time, he's installed e107 (sounds like a radio station) and this script is slick! Much cooler than the Moveable Type system that I use, but I don't feel like switching over (at least for now). Maybe I'll install it on Amy's site instead of Moveable Type, which she's been asking me to do.

It's a cool site, but I don't see what's better about it than movable type. It looks kind of complicated to me, but I haven't really seen how it works.

How it's better: built-in poll script, users can register on your site and you can view your comments stats, users can have profiles with photos on your site, links to other sites can be built automatically, easier install, comment box, latest comments built-in, events calendar, optional forums, it's PHP, not CGI, it's GPL and free for personal OR commercial use, easy to select themes from a simple drop-down menu, visitors can also select the theme they want to view your site in, shows who is on your site, visitors can submit news and the admin can post or refuse it... all of these options and more are admin controlled. Honestly, why don't you just follow the link to the script's site and check it out? Lazy bugger.

I like my movable type :P. I don't care about the comment registration stuff. It doesn't seem to be weblog software; it seems to be forum software.

And yes, I'm a lazy bugger :).

I like moveable type also (note in my original post that I said I didn't intend to switch, at least right now). However, I can acknowledge that it's not the greatest thing ever. I find all those other features cool options to have.... especially the user registration, if spam on the comments ever becomes an issue.

Jeff at September 10, 2003 05:04 PM said:

Good point about the spam in comments. But then it is also a big barrier for people posting comments.

Guinevere at September 10, 2003 07:50 PM said:

Yeah, that's the downside of course. He's got it to allow anonymous comments for now. Hopefully spam never becomes an issue here.

Hey! This is cool too! I just visited Allen's site and it told me, "Since your last visit there have been 1 news item, no chatbox posts, 1 comment, no forum posts and no new site members." Neat! I wish Chris' site had that feature. There's always so much new there.

Mishka rules !

Guinevere at September 24, 2003 09:54 AM said:

I disagree. I mean your site is nothing but a splash page with a coming soon image. Maybe you will rule in the future, but not right now.

Luis at September 29, 2003 04:08 AM said:

Mishka is a spammer. The message, usually posted twice, has been left in countless blogs. Do what I and a lot of people do: either erase the comment or delete the URL link it carries. That link, using your site resources, only serves to elevate his site's ranking in search engines and other listings.
