Mad as Hell
I ruined my Powerbook G4 this morning. The powercable got caught under my chair and when i went to roll the chair, it pulled the powerbook off my desk onto the floor, causing significant damage to the case that will cost me several hundred dollars to repair. I can't believe a 3 foot fall would do such damage. ![]()

Darn it. That is just too bad, I hope you get it fixed soon.
I tried to grab it before it hit the ground! I really did!
I'm really sorry that happened.
poor computer, but mostly poor you for having to
give more cash away.
it's covered by insurance.
Yay for insurance.
Holy crap, that's a major bummer.
Surprising as well, since the powerbook can survive an SUV running over it (although with case damage).
See my site for more info.

It's good to hear that insurance is paying for it.
P.S. Is html enabled in comments?
P.P.S. Why is it only the email address feild in comments and no webpage? I prefer to have my webpage listed rather than my email be collected by spam bots. Is this a method to fight comment spam? If so, then isn't it just going to give more spam to those who post?
Enter a fake email address like some of us do. Guin has her site set up how she wants it set up, deal with it.
Hey, hey, hey,
I'm not angry! I'm not angry at all! I'm just wondering the reasoning. I'm dealing with it.
I'm just wondering if it was an anti-spam technique.
Geez
Only some HTML is on in comments, like pictures so we can have smilies.
Stupid line breaks never work for some reason, so I am planning on upgrading moveabletype to see if that fixes it. Yes, I removed links in comments to fight spam, but it doesn't matter 'cause I didn't remove them from the script itself, and the spam all seems to come from an automatic scripting bot. I was going to take it out of the script as well, and email (by the way, email isn't required to fill out comments here) but I thought I may just turn it all back on, since it doesn't prevent spam anyhow. I figured I'd just fight what comes with IP banning and immediate insults/deletion until the moveabletype blacklist is ready, which is hopefully soon.
Since line breaks don't work, using a new comment to talk about my busted powerbook- which I am using right now, so it's not unusable, but still needs fixing. The parts will cost around $300 + labour
which Allen said is covered by insurance...
The dent actually put a gap between the top and the bottom of the case in the right corner where I rest my arm, so it scratches my arm when I use it now. Also, it must be pressing on a cable inside (that's what Brian figures), because my mouse behaves funny now, but there's no damage to the left side of the powerbook. We tested multiple mice, both USB ports, same result. Brian also confirmed that yeah, the powerbooks are real tough, if damage happens to the top, bottom or sides, but the corners aren't as structurally sound, and it landed on the corner from about 2 1/2- 3 feet.
Here's a photo of the damage:
okay I thought it was was more damaged than this,
like broken glass everywhere and LCD liquid flooding the office but this is just a scratch. :-)
neat-o on the pic it's those Free McDonald's coupons.
There's no glass on this powerbook, the LCD is fine (no dead pixels even), it's the case, not the screen that is broken, and it's MUCH more than a scratch. There's a big gap, the surrounding ring is bent, the top corner is bent down, and that section has the trackpad built in, making it costly to fix. The bottom part is dented in slightly. Also, the USB problem that has emerged would either be a cable (hopefully) or damage to the logic board (hopefully not).
Bah, the sun came out on the screen and I just noticed there's a scuff mark on the bottom right of it.
hehe I saw that it more than just a scratch
it was some kind of dumb joke I did.
too much imagination sometimes.
imagine a portable computer breaking and
fills the place with broken glass flying everywhere in your eyes in the wall and the liquid floods an office literally with it's lcd liquid. lol
You know, just that happened to a customer of Brian's store last week! He was using his 17" powerbook while walking down the street
and dropped it. The LCD shattered. About $1200 in damage + labour for that guy.
Actually, I think the guy was walking down stairs or something and the damage is more like 1600-1800.
Fight! Fight!!!
Eh?
Allen's response to your last comment. Starting with "Actually", I was hoping for a knock down drag out fight while you two decide if he was walking down the stairs or the street. I have a very boring life.
Could someone smash my Comsqrap for me?
Amy, oh if that's the case, I can certainly accommodate you by beating on Allen... and Joel's crappy non-Mac computer.
I'll take care of it Joel. I think I have a spare axe around here somewhere, you know because spare axes are always good to have around just in case.
As for the argument about whether the guy was on the street or on some stairs, Brian can settle this because it's his customer that it happened to.
I have a sledge hammer and some gun powder...
any takers?
I have a slingshot that I once hit and scared a Bear away from our house...I'm sure it'll do the job for Joel's machine
