Apple Announcements

The Macworld show is currently underway, which means new product announcements from Apple. Top of the wow list are two new Macs, now powered by Intel processors. Goodbye G5.
You can now buy a new MacBook Pro or iMac with Intel inside.
The iPod of course shared some of the spotlight too. New iPod accessories include a FM radio tuner with remote, iPod compatible Levi jeans, or a 2006 Chrysler.
Update: one of the most interesting things to come out of today's announcements is that you will be able to have a dual boot Windows/Mac OS X computer on the new Intel Macs. Wow.

Cool!
Dual boot is very cool!
as I mentioned on IRC, one of the minor, but really cool new things is the Magnetic connector for the Power plug into the MacBook (almost called it a powerbook again)
if it gets tugged/tripped on, it will just pull out, without taking the powerbook with it.
That's awesome! I like the dual boot idea. Maybe even triple boot with linux... no wait, MacOS already has a BSD core.
I wonder if Apple will ever sell MacOS for other regular PCs.
The nice thing is that you can buy MacOSX separately from the hardware so if anyone comes up with a way to install it on regular Intel PC gear, you can get your own copy of MacOSX and try it out yourself!
at least currently with 10.4, the retail 10.4 boxes are only for PowerPC, if you buy a Mac with intel, you get Mac OS X install DVD only for intel macs, if you buy a Mac with PowerPC inside, you get an install DVD for PowerPC macs only...
this may change when apple releases 10.5 though, to make things simpler, they may have one retail box for PowerPC & Intel.
oh yeah, one other cool thing with the Intel Macs...
the EFI (BIOS replacement) allows them to use the traditional "Mac" keyboard shortcuts at startup... C to boot from CD, T for Target Disk Mode, and Option to get the BootLoader that scans all connected devices (including firewire booting is still supported... there is a rumour that USB booting may work now as well, but I haven't read of someone actually doing it in person)
From what I understand, EFI also allows you to connect to internet resources before actually booting into an OS as well.
